HARSHER RESPONSE ANNOUNCED FOR PALESTINIANS WHO MAKE HOLES IN SECURITY FENCE TO AVOID SECURITY CHECKPOINTS

An Israeli security official says security forces are altering their previous “silk gloves” approach to rioters such as a group of Palestinians who entered Jerusalem on Friday without passing through a security checkpoint. The Palestinians used hammers to make a hole in the security barrier between Jerusalem and Abu Dis.

The Palestinian fence breach and protest was held as part of events related to the recently held annual Nakba (“catastrophe”) Day, a day on which Arabs mourn the establishment of the state of Israel. Read more here.

200 FIREBOMBS THROWN AT RACHEL’S TOMB LAST 3 MONTHS

Over the past three months, some 200 firebombs and 80 explosive devices have been thrown at worshippers and Israeli soldiers at Rachel’s Tomb on the outskirts of Bethlehem in the West Bank.

The figures were provided by senior Israel Defense Forces and Border Police officers during a meeting of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Israel Hayom reported. Read more here.

ISRAELI, SYRIAN TROOPS TRADE FIRE IN GOLAN HEIGHTS

Israeli troops shot at a target across the Syrian frontier on Tuesday in response to gunfire that struck its forces in the Golan Heights, the Israeli military said.

A statement said a military vehicle was damaged by shots fired from Syria but that there were no injuries. It said that soldiers “returned precise fire.” Read more here.

WOMAN OF THE WALL LEADER’S HOME SPRAY PAINTED BY VANDALS

Vandals have spray painted slogans on the home of one of the leaders of the liberal Women of the Wall group, which campaigns for equality of worship at Jerusalem’s holy site of the Western Wall. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld confirmed that officers were investigating the graffiti attack on the door and hallway leading to the apartment of Peggy Cidor, a founding member of the women’s organisation, which campaigns against segregating worship at the wall by gender. HEBREW UNIVERSITY TO HONOR BARBRA STREISAND

Legendary American actress, director, singer, producer, composer, philanthropist and activist Barbra Streisand will receive an honorary doctor of philosophy degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on June 17.

The university says the honorary doctorate will be in recognition of Streishand’s professional achievements, outstanding humanitarianism, leadership in the realm of human and civil rights, and dedication to Israel and the Jewish people.

4 DEAD IN RARE ISRAEL BANK ROBBERY

At least four people were killed on Monday during a bank robbery in the southern Israel city of Beersheva.

ISRAELI GOVERNMENT: PALESTINIAN POSTER CHILD WASN’T KILLED BY THE IDF

Twelve-year-old Mohammed al-Dura quickly became the poster child of the Palestinian struggle after allegedly being shot dead by Israeli soldiers in Gaza in 2000.

PALESTINIAN VILLAGE ERECTS LARGE SWASTIKA

The Israel Defense Forces Civil Administration on Monday ordered the Palestinian Electrical Company to remove a Swastika flag that had been hung on one of its electric wires in the Palestinian village of Beit Ummar.

A photograph of the Swastika flag was taken by the Tazpit News Agency, which brought it to the attention of the IDF. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit confirmed that the flag had been hung on an electrical line in the village and will be removed. Read more at JNS.org.

ISRAEL SEEKS INTERIM PEACE DEAL WITH THE PALESTINIANS

SYRIA AIMS MISSILES AT ISRAEL

Syria has aimed its considerable ballistic missile arsenal at Israel’s heavily populated Greater Tel Aviv area, according to Middle East sources cited by London’s Sunday Times.

According to the report, the regime of embattled Syrian dictator Bashar Assad will launch the missiles at Israel should the Jewish state carry out one more aerial strike inside Syria. Read more here.
